3-Day Wildlife Safari – Akagera National Park

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Your safari begins early in the morning at around 7:00 AM with a departure from Kigali to Akagera National Park, located in eastern Rwanda. As Rwanda’s only savannah park, Akagera offers a dramatic contrast to the country’s mountainous landscapes.
En route, you will stop in Nyakarambi village to experience the traditional Imigongo art, a unique Rwandan craft made from cow dung and natural pigments. This cultural visit provides insight into local creativity and community-based art preservation.
Upon arrival at Akagera, check in at your lodge and enjoy lunch before heading out for an afternoon boat safari on Lake Ihema, the largest lake in the park. This experience offers close encounters with hippos, Nile crocodiles, and abundant water birds, including the rare shoebill stork when lucky.
In the evening, return to the lodge for relaxation, a sunset view, and a bush-style sundowner by the fire.

Day 2: Full-Day Game Drive in Akagera National Park
After an early breakfast, you will set out for a full-day game drive across Akagera’s diverse landscapes, including open savannah, woodlands, wetlands, and lakeshores.
You will explore different wildlife zones in search of elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and primates such as baboons. With luck, you may also encounter predators such as lions, leopards, hyenas, and jackals.
A picnic lunch will be enjoyed inside the park at a designated scenic spot. After lunch, continue with an afternoon game drive, exploring more areas of the park for additional wildlife sightings and photography opportunities.
In the evening, return to the lodge for dinner and relaxation under the African night sky.

Day 3: Morning Game Drive – Return to Kigali
After breakfast, enjoy a short morning game drive as you exit the park, offering a final chance to spot wildlife in the golden morning light.
You will then begin your journey back to Kigali, with lunch en route. Upon arrival, you will be dropped off at your hotel or Kigali International Airport for your departure flight, marking the end of your Akagera safari experience.
